The Proctored Exam
The proctored exam is a requirement for Board approval. This supervised exam is an open-book, timed exam. You should not find
the exam difficult. If you have done reasonably well on the unit assignments, you should have no trouble completing the exam within
the allotted time. The student will receive more information about the proctored exam as studies progress. The exam materials are
sent directly to the proctor. You may select your proctor when registering for a course or at a later date, since the availability of a
proctor may not be known at the beginning of your studies. Download the Proctor Selection Form or request one from Novel
Engineering. If you will be selecting a proctor at a later date, you will be asked to indicate this in the proctor information area on the
registration form. The proctor will be subject to approval by Novel Engineering, and may be a teacher, school administrator, librarian,
notary public, member of the clergy, etc. The proctor may not be a relative of the student.
The proctored exam is key to the approval of our courses by the Maine Electricians' Examining Board. The proctor will administer the
exam for Novel Engineering. The purpose for the exam is to ensure that the student has successfully met the course objectives. Also, at
the exam site, the proctor will verify that it is you the student (and not someone else) that is sitting for the exam. (See the Proctor
Selection Form for information on who may serve as your proctor.)

If you are studying a single course rather than a module, you will need to take a proctored final examination when you are finished the
assigned work for that course. Otherwise you will be taking a proctored exam for a group of courses as indicated on the program
module information. When we return your last required assignment we will, at the same time, send your proctored final exam with
instructions to the proctor that you have selected, and that has been approved by Novel Engineering. If you did not select a proctor
when enrolling for the course or study program you will need to select a proctor before the final exam can be administered. A Proctor
Selection Form may be downloaded from our website and either mailed or faxed to Novel Engineering (fax 236-0039). If you have
trouble downloading or do not have internet access please let us know so that we can send you a form. You will be notified when the
exam has been sent to your proctor so that you can make arrangements to complete the exam. The exam is an open-book timed exam
that is not intended to be difficult. If you have done reasonably well on the lesson assignments, you should have no trouble completing
the exam within the allotted time. In the unlikely event that you should fail a proctored exam, arrangements can be made to re-test at
no additional charge. Based on our records for a period of several years, a student has approximately a 95.5% chance of passing the
exam at the first sitting and completing it within the allotted time. The exams consist mainly of multiple-choice questions, but some
questions may be encountered that require written answers and/or an indication whether a statement is true or false.

When the exam is mailed to your proctor we will mail you the front cover of the exam, which will show the course(s) being tested and
the allotted time for the exam(s). Any books may be used along with a calculator and blank scratch paper. After we have received and
graded your final exam, we will mail you a Student Progress Report and a certificate of completion or transcript (where applicable).
This report will inform you of your exam score, your average lesson score, and of your overall course score. Also, Novel Engineering
will advise you of any incorrect answers on the proctored exam, and will provide corrective information.
